While various airports in England experienced year-over-year cargo throughout increases in May, cargo throughput at the Frankfurt Airport in Germany fell 1.3 percent year-over-year.
London Heathrow Airport handled 129,671 metric tons of cargo in May, a 1.5 percent increase from May 2015.
“Europe grew by 9.6 percent and East Asia by 8.7 percent, where growth was driven by Air China (up 40 percent), JAL (up 60 percent) and Vietnam (up 76 percent),” the airport said.
Cargo volumes at London Stansted Airport surged 9.2 percent year-over-year in May to 20,463 metric tons, according to data from the airport.
Meanwhile, just 28 miles south of London, Gatwick Airport reported a cargo throughput of 6,378 metric tons for May, a 12.8 percent increase from May 2015.
In Germany, the Frankfurt Airport handled 177,536 metric tons of airfreight and mail, a 1.3 percent year-over-year decline, according to Fraport AG, the airport’s operator.
