US AIRWAYS TO HONOR CERTAIN SHIPPER CONTRACTS
US Airways said it would honor certain contracts with shippers during its Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.
The Arlington, Va.-based airline filed its petitions on Sunday evening in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Virginia’s Eastern District. US Airways’ petitions listed assets of about $7.81 billion and liabilities of about $7.83 billion.
The airline said it plans to use the bankruptcy proceedings to generate cost savings from plane lessors and financiers and other large stakeholders to help it return to profitability.
US Airways shipper contracts are covered under a series of “bridge” orders, which were entered by the Bankruptcy Court on Sunday evening to grant “interim relief” until it completes its considerations of the airline’s first day of motions on Monday.
