ALACAT MEETING TO FOCUS ON FREE TRADE AREA OF THE AMERICAS
Economic aspects and opportunities resulting from the creation of a Free Trade Area of the Americas are the main themes of the 21st annual meeting of the Federation of Caribbean and Latin American Cargo Agents (ALACAT), to be held Oct. 8-10 in Atlanta.
ALACAT said topics for the meeting include:
* Strategic role of air and seaports.
* Impact on air carriers and the role of air cargo logistics providers in markets under initiatives such as FTAA.
* State of the logistics industry in Latin America.
* Cargo security, with an emphasis on new rules, regulations definitions, costs and data-sharing issues.
Expected speakers include Keith Hunter, manager of dangerous goods and cargo, Transportation Security Administration; Lou Guimond, cargo security chief, Delta Air Lines; Doug Marchand, executive director of the Georgia Ports Authority; Tony Charaf, chairman of the board of SkyTeam Cargo.
