BRAZILIAN SHIPPING LINE FROTA GOES UNDER
The Brazilian shipping line Frota Oceanica e Amazonica has been liquidated, according to sources in Brazil.
Frota had already suspended its liner services connecting Brazil to the U.S. and Europe.
Global Lines, the former Brazilian partner of Frota in the U.S. Gulf/Mexico/Brazil trade, continues to operate a liner service on its own.
Besides Frota, other Brazilian-flag shipping lines have either closed down or sold their activities to large, non-Brazilian shipping groups. Libra was bought by Compania Sud Americana de Vapores and the Hamburg-Sud group acquired Empresa de Navegacao Alianca and most of liner shipping activities of Transroll Navegacao.
