INTERNATIONAL TRUCK & ENGINE PICKS VASTERA TO MANAGE SERVICES

International Truck and Engine Corporation, the operating company of Navistar International Corporation, a maker of diesel engines, trucks and school buses, has signed a five-year contract with Vastera, Inc., a provider of trade management services.

The agreements calls for Vastera to run International’s trade operations in North America, thereby enabling International to improve “our Customs compliance efficiency by leveraging Vastera’s capabilities,” said Tom Erickson, director of logistics and aftermarket purchasing at International.

“A significant investment in technology and trade expertise is required for any company to manage preferential trade programs, global trade compliance, and international goods movement in general. Not doing these things well can impact international business performance,” Erickson said. International’s expectations include “faster cycle times and better service for our customers, while reducing our own expenses,” he concluded.

International, with annual sales of $6.7 billion, has plants in North and South America. The company’s headquarters is in Warrenville, Illinois. Vastera is based in Dulles, Va.
