EWL, Fyffes in partnership
Rotterdam-based Europe West Indies Lines has partnered with Irish fruit company Fyffes International to use each other’s regular services in the Europe/Caribbean and South America trades.
EWL will from Dec. 1 upgrade its Mainliner service — which has just added calls to Halifax in Canada — to weekly. That service will then be linked to a new weekly feeder service to and from Belize, on which Fyffes will, amongst others, ship bananas in reefer containers.
“By means of this cooperation westbound cargo is combined with an important eastbound fruit trade and enables EWL to significantly strengthen her market position. The now weekly linking of important European ports with the Caribbean, North/South/Central America and Canada in a package with very swift transit times must be our key to success,” EWL said in a statement.
The following five services will as of Jan. 1 be offered by EWL and Fyffes:
* Mainliner (Sling 1): Cork, Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Bilbao, Halifax, Philipsburg, Port of Spain, La Guaira, Puerto Cabello, Cartagena, Santa Marta, Puerto Cortes, Santo Tomas, and back to Cork.
* West Indies Express (Sling 2): Southampton, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Port of Spain, Willemstad, Oranjestad, Moin, Turbo, and Southampton.
