Teekay orders six tankers

Teekay Shipping Corp., a New York stock exchange-listed tanker shipping operator, has ordered six 105,000-deadweight-ton “Aframax” tankers at a total cost of about $260 million.

Four conventional Aframax tankers and two purpose-built lightering ships have been ordered from Hyundai Heavy Industries and Tsuneishi Corp., respectively.

The lightering ships ordered from Tsuneishi will commence on fixed-rate charters to Teekay’s 50 percent-owned joint venture company, Skaugen PetroTrans, for a period of 10 years upon delivery in 2007 and 2008.
