Maersk Sealand meets ISPS deadline
Maersk Sealand said its vessels are compliant with the International Ship and Port Security code of the International Maritime Organization, which becomes effective today.
“Concerned parties have expressed interest as to the compliance status of our ships and port facilities of which their cargo moves on and through,” the carrier said in an advisory message. However, it said it cannot disclose information on plans, policies, procedures and compliance documents, for which there have also been requests. This is because “these items are of a security sensitive nature and cannot be shared with persons outside of those directly responsible for implementation of protection measures and strategies,” the Danish mega-carrier said.
Maersk Sealand, a sister company of APM Terminals within the A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S group, said Wednesday the majority of APM Terminals’ operated facilities are in compliance with the ISPS code. The remaining facilities depend “on the responsible authorities to finalize their part of the process by July 1.”
