Coast Guard ends ôBow Marinerö recovery

The U.S. Coast Guard has terminated operations to remove fuel oil and recover bodies of missing crew from the 'Bow Mariner,' which sank 50 miles off the Virginia coast Feb. 28.

“Due to extensive damage to the ship’s storage tanks, we believe that no recoverable product is left on the 'Bow Mariner’,” said Capt. Robert R. O’Brien, Jr., head of the Hampton Roads Coast Guard Marine Safety Office.

Six crew members from the “Bow Mariner' were rescued by the Coast Guard. Three seamen died, and 18 are missing.
