Maekawa to become president of “K” Line group

Hiroyuki Maekawa will be promoted to president of the “K” Line group on June 29, subject to approval of shareholders, replacing Yasihide Sakinaga, who will take the more honorary position of chairman of the Japanese group.

Maekawa is a senior managing director of “K” Line in charge of the car carrier sector, corporate planning, its finance group and its China division.

The changes mean that Isao Shintani, a long-time senior executive of “K” Line, will step down as chairman after seeing a major improvement in “K” Line’s sales and profit results in the past few years.

“K” Line also said Friday that six executives would join its board of directors on April 1: Kazuyuki Oda, managing director of “K” Line (China) Ltd.; Akira Otsu, general manager of the tanker group; Yoshikazu Minagawa, managing director of “K” Line (Hong Kong) Ltd.; Jiro Asakura, general manager of the coal and iron ore carrier group; Takashi Saeki, general manager of corporate planning; and Eizo Murakami, general manager of the containerships business group.

Two executives will be leaving the board: Isao Akiba, a former chief executive officer of “K” Line (Europe), who will become a non-executive director and will be appointed president of “K” Line subsidiary Daito Corp.; and Yoshio Iinuma, an executive with the group’s container transportation sector, port business and logistics planning group, who will become assistant to the president.
