GSA UPDATES TRANSPORTATION PRACTICES
The U.S. General Services Administration says it has revised its transportation management regulations to keep pace with industry’s practices.
“With the government spending around $12 to $18 billion to move supplies, furniture and household goods, we saw a need to revitalize the regulations to make more sense in today’s electronic world,” said Ted Bembenek, acting director of GSA’s Transportation Management Policy Division. GSA’s rules had not changed in 93 years.
The new regulations call for the implementation of agency pre-payment audit programs (Public Law 105-264); the retirement of the nine-page government bill of lading for domestic freight and household goods by Sept. 30, 2001; the promotion of electronic transportation documents; and the expanded use of charge cards as an option to pay for transportation services.
