AMERICAN AIRLINES REORGANIZES EXECUTIVES

American Airlines made several changes in executive assignments, including
promoting Robert W. Baker, executive vice president-operations, to vice chairman.
Baker will work directly on all aspects of the airline with Donald J. Carty,
chairman and chief executive officer.
Gerald J. Arpey, senior vice president-finance and planning and chief
financial officer, will succeed Baker as executive vice president-operations. Arpey’s
duties include maintenance and engineering, flight, operations planning, purchasing,
corporate real estate, AA Cargo and America Eagle.
In addition, Daniel P. Garton was appointed executive vice president-customer
service and Michael W. Guff was named executive vice president-marketing and planning.
Arpey and Garton are viewed as potential successors to Carty, who has led
American and AMR Corp. since 1998.
