INCHCAPE TO MOVE HUMANITARIAN AID SHIPMENTS TO UMM QASR
The shipping agent Inchcape Shipping Services said that it has established a presence at the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr, and will be participating in the handling of the first consignment of humanitarian aid cargo to be delivered by sea.
The cargo will consist of essential food and medical supplies, and water.
Within hours of military forces declaring the port of Umm Qasr “safe and open” on Tuesday, a representative from Inchcape’s Kuwait office went to inspect port facilities at Umm Qasr.
The shipping agent said that Umm Qasr will be a key facility for humanitarian aid cargoes.
Meanwhile, Inchcape said that all ports and terminals in Kuwait are reported to be working normally.
“It is expected that large volumes of aid cargo will also be shipped through Kuwaiti ports in the near future,” it said. But local warehousing space is currently in limited supply.
