A.P. Moller-Maersk to run Iraqi port
A.P. Moller-Maersk has been appointed to run the small breakbulk of Zubayr, in southern Iraq, for a period of five years.
Located south of Basra, the port handles a range of cargoes besides breakbulk shipments, including oil and containers. Geared containerships call at the port, which does not have any shore-side container cranes.
The Danish group said its Iraqi port contract is “a small investment.”
“We have no plan to make it a large-scale terminal,” said Jesper Kjaedegaard, head of the West and Central Asia region of Maersk Sealand.
