U.S. ends tariff sanctions against Ukraine
Since Ukraine has cracked down on illegal production and trade of CDs and DVDs, the United States will lift 100-percent tariff sanctions against imports from this country.
The tariff sanctions, which have been in place since 2002, had been imposed on $75 million worth of Ukranian exports to the United States. In July the Ukranian parliament amended its laser-readable disk law to include more stringent intellectual property protections.
The Bush administration said it’s conducting a Special 301 Out-of-Cycle Review to focus on Ukraine’s intellectual property rights enforcement and consider Ukraine’s status as a “priority foreign country” and its eligibility for duty-free benefits under Generalized System of Preferences.
