AHRENKIEL, CLIVE-SMITH DEVELOP OPEN-TOP CONTAINER FOR LOGS
Ahrenkiel Consulting Group and Clive-Smith Associates have developed a container designed for the carriage of logs, pipes, timber and project cargo.
The 40-foot-long “LogRac” container is a purpose-built ruggedized flatrack container that holds cargo by means of eight stanchions on each side. The side rails of the unit or the stanchions can be folded flush with the base to form a level cargo deck.
Ahrenkiel Consulting Group and Clive-Smith Associates said loading and discharge is quick and no pre-slinging is required with the container.
The LogRac container can be stacked seven high, loaded, and each can carry 35 tons of logs measuring up to 12 meters long.
Christian J. Ahrenkiel, chief executive officer of the Ahrenkiel Group said: “All commercial advantages typically pertaining to containers now become realizable for logs.” He said these benefits include reduction in cargo handling costs, reduced wood damage, shorter transit times, frequent sailings, low and stable container rates, flexibility of backhaul cargo and less danger to labor.
