Virginia ports see 8.3% rise in box traffic in first 9 months

   The Port of Virginia handled 182,318 TEUs in September, an increase of 11 percent when compared with totals from the same month last year.
   Year-to-date, the port has handled 1,546,087 TEUs vs. 1,427,008 TEUs handled during the same period last year, an increase of 8.3 percent.
   Rodney W. Oliver, interim executive director for the Virginia Port Authority, said the port has acquired first-in and last-out vessel calls, expanded rail services and pushed an effort to grow market share that “is really paying dividends.”
   Year-to-date, rail container volume is 281,019, 15 percent more than last year. – Chris Dupin
