DEADLINE NEARS FOR NEW CENSUS SED FORM
The U.S. Census Bureau’s deadline for the industry to begin using a new shipper’s export declaration form is set for April 1.
The new form, Census Form 7525-V, is consistent with the agency’s U.S. principal party in interest rules issued last year and the data requirements of the Automated Export System. “The form was last updated in the 1980s,” said Charles A. Woods, assistant division chief for data collection at Census’ Foreign Trade Division.
Some of the new, specific data fields on the form are for carrier codes, vehicle identification numbers and hazardous materials indicators. This information has always been required by Census, but did not have special blocks to list it, Woods said.
Exporters and forwarders may print the new form onto “buff” colored paper from Census’ Web site at http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade. Census has authorized Customs to take “appropriate action” to enforce the April 1 deadline with the industry.
