EC CLEARS HUTCHISONÆS STAKE IN ECT

The European Commission has approved Hutchison Port Holding's bid to acquire a stake in the Rotterdam container terminal operator Europe Combined Terminals (ECT).

The decision resolved a jurisdictional issue raised by the EC last October, said John Meredith, group managing director of Hutchison Port Holdings.

Hutchison, which has extensive investments in other U.K. ports, said its presence at the Port of Rotterdam “will consolidate its position in the competitive and rapidly evolving markets for port services in Europe”

HPH and Rotterdam Municipal Port Management said they will take measures to increase the provision of third-party services at Rotterdam, Europe's largest containerport.
