USDA undersecretary for marketing and regulatory programs Hawks resigns

Bill Hawks, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s undersecretary for marketing and regulatory programs, announced his resignation Tuesday.

During the past four years, Hawks headed efforts to protect U.S. agriculture from animal and plant diseases, and helped to reduce sanitary and phytosanitary barriers to U.S. exports abroad.

“Bill has agreed to continue to serve in the coming months as we identify his replacement,” U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said in a statement.
