LUFTHANSA RESERVES FREIGHTER TO COMBAT DELAYS
Lufthansa Cargo has placed a B747-200 freighter on
reserve deployment to combat the growing number of air traffic delays at Europe’s
airports.
The airline said that traffic delays in Europe "have reached a pitch
that is also affecting the punctuality and reliability of Lufthansa Cargo
flights." The reserve freighter will be used when needed.
Lufthansa said it is deploying the freighter as part of a quality
improvement campaign called "Excellence ’99."
Strong air traffic growth coupled with aging air traffic control systems
are leading to serious congestion problems at Europe’s airports.
