NYK INTRODUCES NEW 6,200-TEU CONTAINERSHIP
NYK Line has introduced a new 6,200-TEU containership, the “NYK Leo,” into the Asia/Europe “Loop 2” service of the Grand Alliance, operated jointly with Hapag-Lloyd, Malaysia International Shipping Corp., OOCL and P&O Nedlloyd.
The new vessel, built by the Korean shipyard Samsung, is 300 meters long, 40 meters wide and has a top speed of 25 knots.
The Asia/Europe Loop 2 service currently utilizes vessels of about 4,800 TEUs.
NYK is expected to take delivery of four 6,200-TEU-type vessels this year and six vessels of the same size in 2003, according to the global liner shipping database ComPairData.
