Port of Virginia July TEUs rise 8 percent

Virginia Port Authority Wednesday said its three marine terminals — Newport News, Portsmouth and Norfolk International ' handled 137,259 TEUs in July, an 8 percent increase over the same month last year. The rolling 12 month average increase has spiked to 19.9 percent.

For the year to date, TEUs are up 10.2 percent over last year, a trend port officials expect to continue.

'We've forecast this port will have a record-setting year this year — as far as container volume — and I don't see any reason to adjust that forecast,'    said Thomas Capozzi, the VPA senior managing director of marketing.
