DEUTSCHE POST ACQUIRES ANOTHER U.S. MAIL OPERATOR
Global Mail, a U.S. subsidiary of Deutsche Post, has acquired the International Mail Division of the U.S. company Skymail International Inc., located in Salt Lake City.
The acquisition is Global Mail’s second in the U.S. within one month and confirms Deutsche Post’s push into the U.S. marketplace following its takeover of Global Mail in 1998.
In 1999, Skymail’s international mail division generated revenue of DM 5.4 million ($2.7 million) and is primarily active in the area of international business mail. Skymail cooperates closely with the U.S. Postal Service.
Deutsche Post World Net said that it views the acquisition as part of its strategy for becoming an important service provider in the U.S. and being able to offer its customers a complete range of international postal services.
Earlier, this month, Deutsche Post announced the acquisition of QuickMail, the international mail division of New York-based Quick International Courier.
