Alianca renames 5,500-TEU ship

Brazilian carrier Alianca Navegacao e Logistica Ltda. has taken over operation of the 5,552-TEU containership “Monte Verde” from parent company Hamburg Sud.

Alianca renamed the ship “Alianca Maua” last Thursday in the port of Santos, and now deploys the vessel on its weekly Europe/East Coast South America River Plate Express service. Hamburg Sud and P&O Nedlloyd also provide vessels on the service.

The ship was delivered in August and was the last of six identical 5,552-TEU ships built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for Hamburg Sud. The ships can sail at 23.3 knots and all feature 1,365 plugs for reefer containers, making them some of the largest ships in the world for the transport of refrigerated commodities.
