The International Longshoremen’s Association has set Tuesday, April 9, as the date it will hold a ratification vote on a new six-year master contract with employers.
The ILA and employers in the Port of New York and New Jersey, the port where about 3,250 of the 14,500 union workers covered by the master contract are employed, have settled local working conditions.
Joseph C. Curto, president of the New York Shipping Association, the group that represents New York-area employers, said Thursday the local agreement that has been worked out “will allow us to begin an evolutionary progression of meaningful change that will improve the process for working ships, hiring labor, and paying key staff persons.”…
