Report: Trained truckers and warehouse managers in short supply in India

A shortage of trained logistics services professionals will be a growing problem in India, a new report from consultants KMPG says.

The report, 'Skills Gaps in the Indian Logistics Sector' says that there is an increasing shortage of qualified truck drivers and warehouse managers. In the trucking sector, where most of India's 3 million drivers are illiterate, the problem could be particularly acute as trade grows exponentially over the next decade.

By 2015, the report estimates the country will need 50 million truck drivers (a nearly 17-fold increase over today), who will require an understanding of the complexities of modern supply chains.

The number of warehouse managers required nationwide will also swell from 14,000 today to 35,000 by 2015, the report said.
