CONTAINERSHIPS TO BLOW WHISTLES AS TRIBUTE TO McLEAN

   Container vessels around the world, their masters contacted by fax and e-mail, will sound their whistles at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday, May 30, in honor of Malcom P. McLean, the container shipping pioneer who died on May 25.

   “We are touched at this gesture from so many ships,” said John D. McCown, chairman of Trailer Bridge, based in Jacksonville, Fla., a container shipping company founded by McLean.

   McLean’s funeral, to be held at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, 7 West 55th Street, in New York, will commence at 11 a.m.
