Boeing redelivers 747-400 converted freighter to JAL
Japan Airlines Sunday received its first 747-400 converted freighter from Boeing at a redelivery ceremony in Xiamen, China.
The modification of the former passenger plane to freighter started in December. The aircraft will now be used by JAL’s cargo unit Japan Airlines Cargo.
JAL has eight firm orders of the passenger to freighter conversions with options for another four.
“We are proud that JAL International — the world’s largest 747 operator — chose the 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighter to upgrade its cargo fleet,” said Bruce Dennis, Boeing’s vice president of customer support, Asia-Pacific.
