UNITED OPENS UPGRADED CARGO TERMINAL AT O’HARE
United Airlines on Wednesday opened a new cargo terminal at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, which the airline said is the largest cargo and mail-processing facility in North America.
The facility underwent a $63-million upgrade, expanding to more than 700,000 square feet, from 575,000 square feet. United's cargo center can handle 100,000 pounds a freight per hour. Its mail-handling system can handle 7,400 pieces of mail per hour through its more than 1,000 linear feet of conveyors, and sorting slides and induction stations.
The new center, which includes a cooler-freezer building, was designed and built by the McClier Corp. of Chicago.
