RailAmerica’s November carloads up 2.1%

RailAmerica Inc., a holding company for 47 short-line railroads in the United States and Canada, said November freight carloads rose 2.1 percent to 109,304 from 107,097 in the same month 2004.

The acquisitions of the Fremont line in Michigan and the Alcoa roads, net of the impact of the sale of the Arizona Eastern Railway in 2004, accounted for 2,317 of the carload increase, RailAmerica said.

For the year to date, RailAmerica’s total carloads increased 5.3 percent to 1.19 million from 1.13 million in the same 11-month period last year.

RailAmerica operates about 8,900 track miles in the United States and Canada.
