EUROGATE’s box volumes slip in 2017

The container terminal operator handled 14.41 million TEUs in 2017, a 1.4 percent decline from the prior year.

EUROGATE handled 14.41 million TEUs in 2017, slipping 1.4 percent from 2016, according to figures released by the container terminal operator Wednesday.
The slight decline can partially be attributed to container volumes at EUROGATE’s Hamburg terminal tumbling 25.6 percent from 2016 to 1.69 million TEUs. Commenting on its sharp volumes decline at the German port, EUROGATE said, “The restructuring of the alliances and consequential loss of customers, as well as the bankruptcy of the long-standing customer Hanjin had a negative impact.”
EUROGATE operates terminals at 12 different ports, one each in Tangier, Lisbon, Cagliari, La Spezia, Ravenna, Salerno, Gioia Tauro, Ust-Luga, Limassol, Wilhelmshaven and Hamburg; and three in Bremerhaven, two of which are joint venture terminals.
EUROGATE took over operations at the container terminal in Limassol on Jan. 29, 2017. The company handled 344,949 TEUs at the terminal during the year.
