Coast Guard cites loss of containers from ship near Cuba
The U.S. Coast Guard has reported the loss of four containers from the 'Seaboard Voyager' while traveling in rough seas 18 miles north of Puerto de Tanamo, Cuba, on Dec. 3.
After the ship’s master advised the Coast Guard’s Marine Safety office in Miami that the containers had gone overboard, the Coast Guard ordered the vessel to anchor off the coast of Miami pending an inspection.
When the 'Seaboard Voyage' was allowed to enter the port of Miami, further inspection showed that locks holding containers to the ship had broken during the voyage.
The Coast Guard subsequently issued a safety broadcast to mariners, since the lost containers are believed to be in the sea 15 miles east of Punta Miasi, Cuba.
