World Airways extends freighter leases
World Air Holdings subsidiary World Airways has extended to April and May 2015 the leases on two MD-11F cargo aircraft from GECAS.
The original lease agreements were scheduled to expire in 2010.
“We continue to see high demand for international cargo capacity and we want to ensure that we have the aircraft to meet that demand long-term,” said Rob Binns, World Air Holdings’ chief marketing officer.
World Airways said it has also signed an ACMI contract with an unnamed international freight forwarder to provide DC-10-30F domestic cargo service through June 30, 2006. ACMI contracts cover aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance.
“Both World Airways DC-10 freighters are now under contract at least through the middle of 2006,” said Binns. “This agreement has an estimated value of $3 million.”
