Port of Halifax seeks Asian cargo growth
A delegation from the port of Halifax, including the Halifax Port Authority and terminal operators, Cerescorp Inc., and Halterm Ltd. in mid-May are making a 10-day trip to Asia to attract greater cargo volumes from the booming region.
Between May 16-25, the Canadian delegation will visit global shipping lines located in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China. Representatives of Canadian National Railway who work in CN offices in Asia will join the party for parts of the trip.
“Halifax has the berth, terminal and rail capacity to handle much more cargo, unlike many congested ports on the West Coast,” said Doug Rose, president of Halterm. “Asian trade is exploding and Halifax is in an ideal position to tap into the huge potential of this market,” he added.
