MARAD APPROVES AMERICAN SHIP MANAGEMENT MSP VESSEL TRANSFER

The U.S. Maritime Administration has approved a request by American Ship Management and APL to replace the containership “President Kennedy” with containership “APL China” in the Maritime Security Program.

The capacity of the “APL China” exceeds that of the “President Kennedy” by 532 TEUs. MarAd said the “replacement provides the MSP fleet with a relatively new, efficient and militarily useful vessel, and that the 'APL China' was eligible for expedited re-flag procedures.”

The approval is subject to the condition that American Ship Management continues to maintain U.S. citizenship under the 1916 Shipping Act’s section 2 corporate citizenship, and that the “APL China” be enrolled in Voluntary Intermodal Sealift Agreement.
