UPS ACQUIRES NORTHERN BORDER BROKER
United Parcel Service said that it will acquire Trans-Border Customs
Services, a broker specializing in the Canada-to-U.S. trade.
The acquisition expands UPS’s services along the northern border,
allowing it to provide customs clearance for all cross-border shipments
regardless of carrier or transport mode, such as truck, rail, air and ocean.
UPS has operated in-house brokerage services since 1985. In 1994, UPS began
to provide brokerage services for northbound shipments into Canada.
Trans-Border, based in Champlain, N.Y., operates about 25 offices
between Michigan and the East Coast. Besides customs clearance
documentation, the company also offers warehousing and transportation
logistics.
Trans-Border will become part of UPS Customhouse Brokerage, which operates in
15 U.S. cities and 31 countries.
