Hong Kong container traffic up 8% in January
Container traffic at the port of Hong Kong increased 8 percent to 1.9 million TEUs in January, as shippers sought to move cargoes ahead of the Chinese New Year holidays.
Growth in traffic was not shared evenly between the main Kwai Chung container terminals and other terminals and facilities.
The Kwai Chung port complex saw a year-on-year volume growth of 17 percent to 1.1 million TEUs. Other port facilities reported a fall in box traffic of 5 percent to about 687,000 TEUs.
