Pusan terminal takes delivery of three ship-to-shore cranes
Pusan Newport Co Ltd., Korea's new mega hub container terminal, last week took delivery of three ship-to-shore cranes manufactured in China by ZPMC.
The terminal expects to have six more cranes by January, when PNC is scheduled for opening with three 350-meter container berths. The second three berths will be operational in 2007 and an additional three berths in mid-2009, with 26 ship-to-shore cranes in all. The overall terminal has a conservative estimated handling capacity of 5.5 million TEU, and will be one of the largest in Asia. The terminal will be equipped for handling large container vessels with water depths between 16 and 17 meters.
According to PNC, the new cranes are the largest manufactured to date, able to stretch across ships 22 containers wide, and large enough to accommodate nine lanes of traffic underneath.
