Ridge selects private sector advisors

Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge earlier this month named several people from the private sector, state government and higher education, including some with freight transportation backgrounds, to serve on a trio of advisory committees.

Herb Kelleher, founder and executive chairman of Southwest Airlines, was one of three people selected for the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC). He also was named to the Private Sector Senior Advisory Committee, an HSAC subcommittee. Southwest, the largest low-cost carrier in the United States and fourth largest in terms of customers boarded, carries cargo underneath the main deck of its passenger planes.

Among those appointed to HSAC’s Academe and Policy Research Advisory Committee of the Homeland Security Advisory Committee is Ret. Navy Vice Admiral Robert Spane, a commissioner of the Port of San Diego.
