SPANISH DOCKERS’ UNIONS TO GO ON STRIKE
The Spanish unions Comisiones Obreras and Federaci'n de Transportes, Comunicaciones y Mar de UGT have urged Spanish dockers to go on strike today (Monday).
The unions are opposed to changes to Spain’s national port legislation.
The International Transport Workers Federation said on Friday that it supports the Spanish dock strikes.
The Transport Workers Federation, as the main critic of the European Commission’s proposed port services directive, said that the Spanish port legislation resembles the European port reform. The federation fears that the European reform will worsen the working conditions of dockers and introduce unfair competition from unqualified workers.
