DB Logistics, Kuehne + Nagel rail freight cooperation
Swiss forwarding and logistics firm Kuehne + Nagel and Germany’s DB Logistics are planning to work more closely together in future, with emphasis put on their joint rail freight operations between Germany and both Scandinavia and Eastern Europe.
“We are delighted that Kuehne + Nagel, one of the world’s biggest providers of transport and logistics services, has chosen to rely increasingly on rail, and on single freight car transport in particular,” said Norbert Bensel, chairman of DB Logistics, the transportation and logistics division of German state-owned rail operator and logistics giant Deutsche Bahn.
“This shows that our strategic approach is the right one, and that rail is increasingly becoming a genuine alternative to transport by road,” he added.
Ewald Kaiser, Kuehne + Nagel’s chief operating officer for rail and road logistics, said: “This agreement marks a strengthening and a further extension of a partnership that has always been good in the past. The aim is to transfer more goods from the road to rail, wherever doing so makes sense.”
