Sea Star amending port security charge
Sea Star Line will implement an increase in its port security charge effective April 1.
The charge for containers and trailers will increase from $75 to $95. Automobiles will be subject to a $21 charge, up from $13. The breakbulk charge will be $24 per 2,000 pounds, up from $15.
'We last amended the Port Security Charge (PSC) component of our Total Accessorial Charge (TAC) in April 2005,' the company said in a statement. 'Since that time we have faced, and absorbed, cost increases to our overall security cost structure. The cost increases have come in the form of assessments by municipalities and port authorities, cost associated with identification, credentialing and badging processes, as well as capital expenditures to make our vessels and terminals more secure.'
