MSC UPGRADES CLASSIFICATION PROCEDURES WITH ABS
The U.S. Military Sealift Command has upgraded its relationship with the American Bureau of Shipping by signing a “memorandum of understanding” which better classifies and documents procedures and processes.
Under the new memorandum of understanding, ABS is also authorized to act on behalf of the Coast Guard to conduct MSC vessel inspections and to monitor Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and Marine Pollution (MARPOL) requirements.
ABS has been classifying MSC vessels under the direction of the Chief of Navel Operations since 1960.
