U.S., SRI LANKA ENTER OPEN-SKIES AGREEMENT
The United States and Sri Lanka have concluded an open-skies aviation agreement that, when fully implemented, will remove all restriction on air services to, from and beyond each other’s territory.
“Open-skies agreements have been shown to bring substantial economic benefits to shippers, travelers and communities in the United States and abroad,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta.
This agreement is the fourth reached during the Bush administration, following Poland, Oman and France, and the United States’ 56th agreement overall. Open-skies agreements eliminate restrictions on how often carrier can fly, the type of plane they can use, and the prices they can charge. The agreement covers both passenger and cargo services, as well as scheduled and charter operations.
