EVERGREEN AFFILIATE NAMES NEW 6,332-TEU SHIP
Hatsu Marine Ltd., the new London-based shipping subsidiary of the Taiwanese group Evergreen, has launched the “Hatsu Ethic,” the last in a series of five new 6,332-TEU containerships.
The latest “E-type” post-Panamax vessel of the Evergreen group will be delivered in January, and will fly the British flag. Hatsu Marine will benefit from the advantageous tonnage tax regime of the United Kingdom. The five Hatsu Marine E-type vessels will all be deployed in the transpacific trades linking North America and Asia.
Established by the Evergreen group in January, Hatsu Marine plans to provide a global container service embracing North America, Asia, and Europe by the end of this year. Later this year, Hatsu Marine will commence services linking Asia and North Europe, and North Europe and North America. The shipping line has not disclosed specific dates of implementation of these plans.
Y.F. Chang, group chairman of Evergreen, said a major shipbuilding program was on the horizon in about two years.
