CSX LINES INCREASES ALASKA RATES
CSX Lines has filed with the U.S. Surface Transportation Board for a 1.9-percent general rate increase on shipments to and from Alaska.
The increase was filed in Tariff SEAU 301, which covers shipments to and from the Alaska Railbelt, and becomes effective on Dec. 3.
“This small increase is being taken to partially offset cost increases that we have experienced in the last year and higher expenses projected in the upcoming months,” CSX Lines said.
For example, CSX Lines has purchased new insulated containers and plans to further upgrade its fleet of equipment, it said. The shipping line, which took over the domestic activities of Sea-Land Service, has invested funds to modify its vessel capacity to handle more 45-foot containers.
