SHANGHAI PORT AUTHORITY AND APM TERMINALS IN JOINT VENTURE

The Hudong Container Terminal Management Company, a joint venture between Shanghai Port Authority and APM Terminals, has been formed to manage Wai Gao Qiao Phase 4, a common user terminal expecting to receive its first ship’s call in February.

Double-digit annual growth over the past 10 years has moved the port of Shanghai up to fifth-largest container port in the world. Wai Gao Qiao 4 is being built to accommodate that growth.

The new 403-acre Wai Gao Qiao 4 terminal with four berths and 12 container cranes will be the largest in the port of Shanghai.

APM Terminals was formed as a separate business unit alongside Maersk Sealand last year to serve the terminal requirements of the global container shipping industry on a common user basis.
