Europe/South America carriers to introduce peak season surcharge
Members of the European/South Pacific & Magellan Freight Conference (ESPMC), a carrier group in the Europe/West Coast of South America trade, said they will introduce a peak season surcharge for all southbound shipments from Oct. 1 through to Dec. 31.
The surcharge will be 100 euros ($124) per 20-foot box and 150 euros ($186) per 40-foot container.
“High volumes of cargoes from Europe during this period create an imbalance particularly extreme, thus creating substantial additional operating costs to the lines.” the ESPMC carriers said in a statement.
ESPMC carriers are CMA CGM, Compania Sud Americana de Vapores, Hamburg Sud, Hapag-Lloyd, and “K” Line.
