UPS OPENS MINNESOTA HUB; WINS CONTRACT WITH LASINOH LABS

      United Parcel Service, the Atlanta-based express carrier and logistics company, unveiled on Tuesday a new 335,000-square foot automated package distribution hub in Maple Grove, Minn.

   Located on 56 acres, the new facility can sort 20,000 items an hour, more than five per second. Packages can move through high-speed sorting systems in as little as eight minutes from in-bound truck to out-bound truck.

   More than 825 employees will work at the hub, according to Calvin Darden, UPS senior vice president for U.S. operations.

   UPS also said that Lansinoh Laboratories, a provider of products for new mothers, has contracted with UPS Supply Chain Solutions. and will have close relations with four UPS business units.

   UPS Logistics Group will provide Lansinoh with inventory and order management.

   UPS Freight Services will provide global transportation management for the Laboratories’ products.

   UPS Capital will provide a secured revolving line of credit for Lansinoh to use as working capital.

   UPS will continue to provide small-package deliveries for the company, which was founded by a breastfeeding mother in 1985 and remains dedicated to meeting the special needs of breastfeeding families.

   Lansinoh Laboratories, based in Alexandria, Va., also has an office in Leeds, England, that provides product to countries in the European Union. The company has tripled in size in the last five years.
